DPW Podcast #128: Talking Sci-fi And Stand-up Comedy With Jeremiah Ukponrefe

Meet
Our Hosts

Caleb James K.

Caleb James K. is the former Editor-in-Chief of the literary journal, Drunken Pen Writing, and the host of the DPW Podcast. He’s also a fiction writer, poet, and aspiring novelist.

Spencer Church

A former aspiring comic book artist, Spencer is the cohost of the DPW Podcast as well as a short story writer and avid reader.

In this episode, we talk with writer and stand-up comedian Jeremiah Ukponrefe. We open things up with a quick chat about what current comedians we enjoy.

Afterward, Jeremiah tells us about Hive, his first sci-fi novel in a nine-part series. We also discuss the hardships of promoting work in an oversaturated market and how being a stand-up comedian actually helps with book sales.

Jeremiah also tells us about the comedy landscape in his home country of Canada, the difficulties of touring, and his goal of moving to Europe to further his career in stand-up.

Due to time constraints, Jeremiah had to leave a bit early, so to make up for it, Caleb ends the show with a needlessly gross story that we know you will enjoy.

#215: Getting Blasphemous With David Scott Hay Drunken Pen Writing Podcast

In today's episode, we sit down with author David Scott Hay and discuss how one goes about killing Jesus. More specifically, we have a long conversation about his new book, The Butcher of Nazareth, in which our protagonist has been given that very task to prevent the apocalypse. We also talk about giant disgusting goats!  David also breaks down his writing style, the unusual origin of this book (you'll never guess what it was originally supposed to be about), the book's amazing cover, and the grueling nature of putting together a period piece.   You can order The Butcher of Nazareth at Whiskey Tit You can follow David Scott Hay on Instagram @david.scott.hay.official  You can also check out David's other work at https://www.davidscotthay.com/
