Published in HorrorScope: A Zodiac Anthology: Volume 3

Throughout the 1970s up to the early 2000s, there was a nefarious form of execution perpetrated upon the indigenous population of Saskatoon Saskatchewan. This form of execution practiced by members of the Saskatoon Police Service was known as taking indigenous Canadians for “starlight tours” or what is now referred to as the Saskatoon freezing deaths. This involved racist police officers picking up drunk indigenous people (often males and not always drunk) and arresting them. They would then drive the indigenous people to the outskirts of the city during the harsh winter months and abandon them. Their victims would often freeze to death on their trek back to the city.

When I first heard of this horrible practice, I immediately thought of the beginnings of a revenge tale. I started writing the story on and off without any real gusto. Then I stumbled across a cool-looking horror anthology accepting submissions. The anthology turned out to be HorrorScope Volume 3. It, as well as the first two volumes, utilize horoscope signs as the themes for each story and poem. This piqued my interest.

After checking out the kind of stuff published in these anthologies, I realized my story had promise. So after some tweaking, I finished the story with the star sign Leo as the theme and submitted it. Much to my delight, my story was accepted. I waited for months and then finally received my contributor copy. I was blown away by how nice the book turned out.

HorrorScope Vol. 3 officially dropped on October 20th. So if you want to read my story, Bathed in Starlight, or any of the other great work featured in the collection, you can go ahead and pick up a copy through one of the links below. I highly recommend getting a hardcover edition as they are absolutely gorgeous.
