Lately, I’ve been experimenting with the visual aspects of storytelling; using the text as another layer of crafting images that coincide with the story being told. House of Leaves is a great example of this kind of writing. But I find I usually lean toward a more lyrical prose style of storytelling, so writing a poem in this style was only natural. Of course, the formatting is an absolute nightmare when converting it onto a website, but fortunately, I quickly figured out how to turn a pdf into a jpeg. This allowed me to share the following piece with you as it was originally written.
I’d love to know what you think (about the style and what you think the piece means), so please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments or with any of my social media accounts.
Kill Our Heroes

While on the surface, this poem seems to be about a son killing his father. But it’s actually about a man who is genetically predisposed to alcoholism and blames his problems with addiction on his bloodline. He wants to escape the bonds of addiction but can’t escape his own excuses, the main one being that he feels he inherited his problem with alcohol from his alcoholic father.

Powerful writing and the format really adds to the feeling.

Thanks for reading it! I don’t think there’s much of an audience for this type of stuff but it is fun to write.
