Published in The Forest Knows The True Beast Anthology

My flash fiction piece “Cry for the Grave” has been published in The Forest Knows The True Beast anthology.

I don’t have much to say about my story “Cry for the Grave” which is featured in The Forest Knows The True Beast anthology. I happened to stumble across the open call for the anthology and thought it was interesting.

The call, put out by Lemon Jelly Press, was for flash fiction (up to 400 words) and poetry that end with the phrase “The forest knows the true beast.” Since it was such a short word count, I figured it wouldn’t be hard to whip up a story fast. The only tricky part was crafting a quick tale centered around that phrase.

For whatever reason, my mind went straight to ancient forest cult. I thought about an undead cult cursed to roam the forest, praying for a death that will never come. That’s about it. I wrote the story with a focus on language, a maximalist style for the low word count, and I’m happy with how it came out.

Also, the book itself is super nice! It’s definitely worth checking out.
